Vimukti, the student council of the women cell, DAV College held a talk today on ” Understanding the factors that shape gender attitudes in early adolescents and youth”. The speaker Dr. Anupama Mankotia, a counsellor and clinical psychologist, talked on the established attitudes prevalent in our society as gender stereotypes. In a very lucid manner she pondered upon the demographic factors and cultural influences among the many root causes. Students were also made to understand how such attitudes were affecting their behaviour and choices. She concluded the talk by bringing forth the action points for intervention. These points included: Fundamental shift in attitude; rooting out the disrespect in human mind and intent; removing the inhibitions.
She made her talk interesting by using slides and video clips. Students received the talk very well and their queries and doubts were being answered very compassionately which made the event very meaningful for the students.
