VARUN GANDHI TO SPEAK AT  National Seminar– ‘Media, Society and Cultural: Interrelation and Emerging Trends’ on 8  February

The P.G. Department of Sociology, D.A.V College, Chandigarh in association with HEAL Society, Chandigarh is organizing a One-day National Seminar on the theme “Media, Society and Culture: Interrelation and Emerging Trends’ sponsored by College Development Council on 8 February, 2018. Around 300 people including academicians, Activists, Research Scholars, Officials will be attending this seminar. More than sixty papers on diverse theme related to the main theme related to media and culture will be presented in the parallel sessions of the seminar.

Sh. Varun GandhiMember of Parliament (Loksabha) and Member of Standing Committee on External Affairs will be the chief Guest for the inaugural session of the Seminar on 8th February, 2018.

Prof. S.P. Bansal, Vice Chancellor, Indira Gandhi University, Meerpur, Rewari (Haryana) will preside over the inaugural session. Sh. Kanwar Sandhu, MLA, and former Editor, Hindustan Times and Indian Express, Chandigarh will deliver the key-note address. 

Sh. Hans Raj, MLA and Deputy Speaker, Himachal Pradesh Vidhansabha and Sh. Rakesh Kumar Popli, Director, Higher Education, U.T., Chandigarh will be the Guests of Honour.

Dr. Jagdish C. Mehta, Head, Department of Sociology DAV College, Chandigarh and Convener of the Seminar said that the seminar shall also deliberate on the impact of Media in general and Social Media in particular on emerging Youth Culture and its changing dynamics. Prof. Sherry Sabbarwal (Coordinator, Department of Social Work), Prof. Manjit Singh( Department of Sociology, P.U. Chandigarh), Prof. Akshya Kumar (Department of English and Cultural Studies, P.U. Chandigarh), Prof. Archana R. Singh, (Chairperson, School of Communication Studies, P.U. Chandigarh), and Sh. S.P. Singh, senior journalist will deliberate on the panel discussion on ‘Media and Youth Culture’ he added.

 

The purpose of the seminar is to explore the changing dynamics of the society due to the emergence of new forms of media.

Other Experts who will speak on occasion are Professor Vishav Raksha (Head, Department of Sociology, and University of Jammu), Dr. Gurmeet Singh (Chairman, Department of Hindi, P.U. Chandigarh) Sh. Rajiv Ranjan Roy (Author and Senior Assistant Editor, Daily Post, Chandigarh), and Sh. Surendra Thakur (Head, Department of Sociology, Elphinston College, Mumbai)
