To commemorate yoga week celebrations Paras Bliss Hospital organised an antenatal yoga session for expecting mothers at the hospital here today. Yoga instructor taught antenatal yoga to expecting women in an hour-long session. Antenatal yoga session helped antenatal women to improve their breathing, reducing stress and anxiety level.
Dr. Shilva, Senior Consultant Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Paras Bliss Hospital, while delivering a talk to expecting mothers said, yoga plays very important role during pregnancy, as it helps women to go through her pregnancy with minimal discomfort. It helps post during pregnancy and post delivery as well. Expecting women who do yoga regularly are healthier both in mind and body. This enables them to become more flexible which helps them to adapt to different positions during labour and ligaments becomes more elastic, which helps to reduce labour pain.”
She added, as a woman approaches delivery period and as the baby grows it puts more stress on specific muscles in your body. A lot of lower back pain is observed among pregnant women. Hips get tighter due to baby’s weight in belly. Because of increase in the breast size during pregnancy, the chest and upper back becomes more tensed along with neck and shoulders. Yoga helps you to strengthen your muscles and relaxes your body.
Dr. Monica Agarwal, Consultant Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Paras Bliss Hospital added, prenatal yoga helps you to improve sleep, reduces anxiety and stress. It helps to decrease lower back pain, headaches, shortness of breath, nausea etc. Prenatal yoga encourages stretching, focused breathing and mental centring. With the help of prenatal yoga breathing technique helps you to reduce shortness of breathing during pregnancy also works during contractions during labour.
