Kiren Sandhu a dynamic 24- year-old young woman from Punjab’s Hoshiarpur, is a talented- self taught fashion designer, and has made such remarkable Punjabi designer wears, that she became popular in the Punjabi entertainment Industry, among various actresses and singers. Starting her career 4 years back, Kiren designed various dresses for popular Punjabi singers and actresses like Sara Gurpal, Himanshi Khurana, Nimrat Khaira , Oshin Brar, Kanika Mann, Anmol Gaga Maan, to name a few. Tele actress , Ankita Sharma has also worn the dresses designed by Ms Kiren & also some lifestyle bloggers in India & abroad.
“I have a good number of celebrity clients who I design for. I have been conducting my fashion designing initiative online, but now as I want to serve girls & women looking for traditional yet chic Punjabi designer dresses, by opening my first studio in tricity area – in Mohali. My aim is to revive Punjabi traditional wear mainly Punjabi suits, by providing a creative ensembles of this beautiful attire to the younger generation, which has been influenced quite a lot by western fashion.” Said Kiren.
Kiren unveiled her label ‘Kiren Sandhu Fashion Studio’ at Mohali’s upmarket Phase 3 A. The studio with an awe inspiring decor which is an amalgamation of contemporary & traditional settings, was inaugurated by the famous Punjabi -Bollywood singer- Jasmine Sandlas, who gained immense popularity in Hindi playback singing with her song ‘Yaar Na Miley’ she sang for Salman Khan starrer ‘Kick’.
Realising the fact that one’s work is only appreciated if it offers something which others do not offer, Sandhu has worked really hard on her designs. “My USP is introduction of block printing and hand painting on the dresses I design. All of my work is handicraft based. I specialise in Punjabi Suits and Salwars to bring this impressive Punjabi dress in the forefront.” Added Sandhu.
Sandhu has also ventured into making palazzos, frock suits, shawls, stoles, gowns etc. as demanded by her customers. Her forte is customised development of attires.
While talking to the media, she shared how she got interested in this field since her school days and how making Punjabi traditional dresses, as people’s first choice for dressing, is the guiding factor for her work hard in this field. Various models showcased the dresses prepared by the designer during the event.
Kiren also runs a fully equipped workshop at the same premises as that of her studio. where different craftsmen work under her guidance to prepare dresses.
Kiren believes in giving back to society in full measure. She is also running a training centre which imparts skills associated with fashion designing to young Punjabi girls who she wants to see gainfully employed in future. Apart from this, considering it as her social responsibility, she looks forward to donate some of her designer suits every year to girls of Punjab’s hinterland who might find it hard to secure a piece of decent clothing due to financial reasons.
Talking about her future endeavours, Kiren Sandhu told the media that she looks forward to expand her work in different areas of Punjab like Jalandhar & Ludhiana. Furthermore, in a span of 2 years, she is planning to serve the Punjabi crowd settled in Toronto, Canada with her exclusive designer studio she plans to open there.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank my parents especially my father who trusted in me and helped me realise my dream of opening a studio a reality.” Summed up Kiren.
